What
Is Acne?
Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory skin condition that affects the pores
of the head, neck, and shoulders, causing plugs and infections that
appear as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and cysts.
Acne
occurs when sebaceous secretions (skin oils) are trapped inside the
pores along with dead skin cells, impurities such as dirt and makeup,
and Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne
infections. It should be noted that skin oil by itself does not cause
acne - oils, debris and bacteria must be trapped in the pores together
in order to result in an outbreak. Additionally, other acne-like
conditions such as boils and acne rosacea may look like acne vulgaris,
but typically occur with bacteria strains other than Propionibacterium
acnes.
What
Causes Acne?
Teenage acne occurs when hormonal changes cause an increase in sebaceous
secretions, which, when combined with a temporary thickening and
coarsening of the skin and slight immune system imbalances, work
together to create teenage skin. The thickened skin provides both an
increase in debris in the pores and deeper pores for material -
including the extra skin oil - to collect in, while immune system
fluctuations allow bacteria to flourish. Adult acne has a similar - but
not identical - pathology. Hormonal and immune system imbalances have
been implicated, but with an additional culprit: inflammation. Chronic
inflammation is believed to be a contributor to adult acne, swelling
pores shut and interfering with healing. This helps explain how adult
acne can flourish in the absence of increased sebaceous secretions.
How
Does Seabuckthorn Help Acne?
Seabuckthorn acts internally and externally on the three main acne
culprits: immune system and endocrine (hormone) imbalances, and chronic
inflammation. Seabuckthorn contains several potent natural
anti-inflammatory agents (including quercetin and salycins), as well as
several groups of micronutrients (including Omegas 3,6, 7 and 9) that
work together to balance and regulate the body's hormonal and immune
systems. Topical Seabuckthorn applications soften, thin and strengthen
the skin and reduce scarring, swelling and inflammation, allowing the
skin to finally break the inflammatory cycle and heal itself.
Seabuckthorn
is also a mild analgesic, which discourages scratching and picking, and
is an anti-microbial. Taken internally, seabuckthorn moderates and
regulates the inflammatory, immune and endocrine (hormonal) systems, and
balances the skin's cells by strengthening cell and blood vessel
walls.
How
Do We Treat Acne?
At Seabuckthorn International, we believe 100% in the efficacy of the
'Inside Out' approach to treating acne with SBT Seabuckthorn. Acne,
particularly adult acne, requires both a consistent topical treatment

programme to treat acne with SBT Seabuckthorn from the inside out is our
Acne Treatment Regime, which includes:
-
Two
anti-inflammatory-rich SBT Seabuckthorn tea-infused cleansing bars to
clean the pores and speed healing
-
One

-
A

improved
-
Our
full internal acne-fighting nutritional line, including
anti-inflammatory tea, immune boosting flavones
-
SBT
Seabuckthorn fruit and seed oils to balance the immune and endocrine
systems.
For
milder acne that lacks the inflammatory aspect, we recommend our
Acne Starter Kit
-
One
bar of our tea cleanser
-
A
bottle of seed oil for topical application
-
A
bottle of seed oil capsules to tune up the body's systems and nip
inflammation in the bud.
We
also highly recommend that acne sufferers practice our Facial
Cleansing Method, which gently exfoliates and discourages bacteria
while maintaining the skin's natural moisture balance. Acne-prone skin
in particular benefits from the anti-inflammatory effects of the soap
during cleansing, as well as the gentle removal of dead skin cells and
impurities. The cleansing programme also stimulates oil production,
which actually helps acne by activating the pores. |
